Pasta is the most shared food, not just at the table

Do you remember the memorable scene in which Totò, in the famous film “Poverty and Nobility”, threw himself on the table, grabbing the spaghetti with his hands, even putting it in his pocket to keep it away from the other hungry diners? A scene that has remained in the collective imagination in the same way as the plate of pasta with tomato sauce, the undisputed symbol of Italianness, democratic and inclusive by nature.

From the plate to social networks

A full-fledged actress of the Italian table, pasta has always played an aggregating and convivial role within the home. With the advent of digitalization, this same function is increasingly exercised by social networks where everything related to food, recipes and gastronomy is the protagonist. A virtual table where pasta, of course, is the absolute queen. If we had to talk about pasta through a hashtag, it would certainly be #social.

A constantly evolving product and protagonist of countless recipes for all tastes and needs, thanks to its versatility and goodness, pasta has become viral on social networks. Riding the wave of new trends, she proved that she was capable of adapt to each contexteven on the screens of our smartphones and conquering millions of followers.

To celebrate this traditional but also contemporary cuisine, the “Gragnano Città della pasta” took place again this year, from September 6 to 8, 2024., the gastronomic event that celebrates this food in all its forms and formats.

From tradition to innovation

A three-day event characterized by a common thread that goes from tradition to innovation, organized and promoted by the Consortium for the Protection of Gragnano PGI Pasta, in collaboration with the Municipality of Gragnano and the Campania Region.

Alongside the visit to the ancient mills and pasta factories of the Campania tradition, starred chefs and some of the most followed culinary influencers in the social networks, they played in the preparation of recipes linked to the territory and more innovative and contemporary gastronomic proposals. In short, participants were offered a journey to discover one of the most photographed, shared and appreciated foods in the world.

Gragnano, city of pasta

The choice of Gragnano (Naples) to celebrate pasta is not by chance. Here, in the sixteenth century, production began from the union of the best durum wheat semolina with the spring water of the valley, taking advantage of the microclimate present for drying (which took place along the main street of the city). Excellent pasta makers have been able to pass on emotions from generation to generation, combined with small and large secrets to transform two simple natural elements into a unique and inimitable product.
