Jannik Sinner's aunt dies at 56: she dedicated her US Open victory to him

Mourning for world number 1 tennis player Jannik Sinner. Aunt Margith Rauchegger, to whom the South Tyrolean champion had dedicated a thought after his victory at the US Open, has died at the age of 56. The mother's sister Siglinde died of a serious illness. The family made this known in an obituary in German: “We would like you to know how precious you were,” it read. “Margith has fallen asleep forever in her beloved home.”

The message at the US Open

In the speech delivered immediately after the triumph at the US Open in New York in the final against Taylor Fritz, Sinner wanted to make a special dedication to his aunt: “I love tennis, I trained a lot for these stages, but beyond the court there is a life and I want to dedicate this title to my aunt,” said the champion from South Tyrol, explaining that his thoughts go to her “because she is not well and I don't know how long she will remain in my life. And it's wonderful to share this moment with her, she was an important person for me. I would really like to see her get better. I wish everyone good health, even if it is a wish that cannot always be fulfilled.”
