Irène Pivetti sentenced to 4 years in prison for tax fraud and self-laundering

Former President of the Chamber Irène Pivetti was sentenced to 4 years in prison for tax fraud and self-laundering. This was decided by the Fourth Criminal Chamber of the Milan Court in the trial against three other defendants for a series of commercial transactions carried out in 2016 worth around 10 million euros, which notably concerned the sale of three Ferrari Granturismos. Cars which, according to the prosecution, were used to launder the proceeds resulting from tax crimes. Besides Pivetti, the investigation also included former Gran Turismo champion Leonardo Isolani, his wife Manuela Mascoli, his daughter Giorgia Giovannelli, notary Francesco Maria Trapani and entrepreneur Candido Giuseppe Mancaniello. Last September, the Court of Cassation confirmed the seizure of around 3.5 million euros from the former parliamentarian, now working in a social canteen.

“It’s only the first half. I am absolutely innocent”

The former third-state official was present in the courtroom to read the device. The request for sanction from the Milan prosecutor, Giovanni Tarzia, was therefore accepted, having requested the sentencing of Pivetti to 4 years at the end of the investigation resulting from the investigation by the financial police unit of the financial police. The public prosecutor had put forward the hypothesis of an intermediation role of Only Italia, a company attributable to the former President of the Chamber, in the operations of Isolani's Team Racing which wanted to hide certain assets from the tax authorities, including three Ferrari Granturismos subject to purchase and sale, after accumulating debts for 5 million euros. The deadline for submitting reasons for conviction was set at 90 days. “It’s only the first half. I'm absolutely innocent, but I didn't expect anything different,” Pivetti told reporters as he left the courtroom.
