In summer, 36 million Italians travel, 90% within Italy and between June and September 33% will make a return trip

Shorter, more intense, more frequent. This is the type of holiday that Italians are showing they prefer for this summer of 2024.

According to the results of research carried out on behalf of Federalberghi by the company Tecnè, they are 36 million Italians consider resigning while traveling. THE 90% will remain in Italy and the rest will go abroad, mainly to the sea, to places not far from Italy. A third of holidaymakers were considering doing so more than one holiday period outside the main summer period: 3.6 million will renew this vacation at least once; 3.1 million will move twice; 1.7 million Italians will take three vacation periods. A scenario that will produce a turnover of 40.6 billion euros.

It is always interesting to see, through the figures, the changes that are taking place – said Federalberghi President Bernabò Bocca, immediately commenting on the survey data – Facing a difficult year, in which catastrophic climatic events such as floods and droughts have brought entire regions to their knees, despite the disruptions that ongoing international conflicts could create for tourist flows, despite all this, we see that the sector is showing a certain stability. Nine out of ten Italians want to stay in the Bel Paese – Bocca continued– And for us, seeing this is a good thing. But the new trend, already underway for some time, of dividing summer holidays into several segments is also being confirmed. This shortening of time paradoxically allows the departure to be reproduced by spreading it over different periods, thus having the possibility of visiting new places.“.

According to the president of Federalberghi “the crucial point remains 54% of citizens who were unable to plan their vacation due to lack of cash. The picture we have before us today – concluded Bocca – is one of good performance on international markets, while we see a certain decline on national and European markets.“.
