Houthi missile on an MSC merchant ship, fear and shooting on board. Crosetto: “Swiss ship flying the Liberian flag, what does Gaza have to do with it?”

New artillery exchanges yesterday in the Red Sea between Yemeni Houthi forces and those of the international coalition led by the United States and whose mission is to protect freedom of navigation. The central command of the American forces reported what happened yesterday, Monday, March 4, at night. Yesterday afternoon, it was reported, “Iran-backed Houthi terrorists” launched two ballistic missiles against the container ship MSC Sky II which was transiting the Gulf of Aden. It is a Swiss-owned merchant ship flying the Liberian flag. He was heading towards Djibouti. One of the two missiles hit the ship, causing “damage”: according to what Ansa reconstructs, also citing the commander of the merchant ship, a fire broke out on board, which the crew was able to extinguish. There were no injuries and the ship was subsequently able to resume navigation. The second missile ended up in the water, as did another launched by Yemeni rebels a few hours earlier. In the evening, U.S.-led forces moved into action to intercept anti-ship cruise missiles that posed “an imminent threat to U.S. merchant ships and naval vessels in the region.” Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, who will be in Parliament today to give the green light to the European Aspides mission, commented on what happened, highlighting the absurdity of the Houthis' strategy: “The rebels Yemeni Houthis attacked the Sky II container ship. ship flying the Liberian flag and belonging to Switzerland, was heading towards Djibouti. I don't know that neither Switzerland, nor Liberia, nor Djibouti have ever participated in any way in the ongoing conflict in Gaza,” Crosetto polemically said on X.
