He fell from the balcony to escape a rape, the two convicted for the death of Martina Rossi have been released from prison. Parents: “They never apologized”

The Florence Surveillance Court decided to release from prison Alessandro Albertoni and Luca Vanneschi, definitively sentenced to 3 years in prison in October 2021 for attempted group sexual violence against Martina Rossi, the Genoese student who died falling from a balcony in Palma de Mallorca. Now, after semi-release, they have obtained probationary custody from social services. The decision, known only now, was taken after two different hearings, one for Vanneschi and the other for Albertoni, dating back to last July and mid-February 2024 respectively. The bitterness of Martina's parents, Bruno Rossi and Franca Murialdi, was inevitable, according to which “the judge was wrong to grant custody because, precisely for this reason, the principle of respite necessary in these cases was lacking”. Albertoni and Vanneschi, in fact, “never apologized, the minimum was that they served their sentence in prison.”

The story

Franca Murialdi also claims that “this only sets a bad example for young people”, because “they never repented”. Bruno Rossi lets himself go to despair: “No one will ever give me back my daughter.” The facts date back to August 3, 2011. Martina Rossi was then on vacation in the Spanish city. The convicts have always denied the reconstruction confirmed by the last level of judgment, with the final sentence of the Supreme Court. That is to say the one according to which Martina lost her life while fleeing their attempted rape, by trying to climb over the balcony of the next room. Finally, he fell from the sixth floor. The episode was initially ruled a suicide by Spanish police. But the years-long legal battle surrounding the case established another truth.

Detention

Albertoni and Vanneschi initially serve their sentences in prison. They could go to work before returning to their cells, but their lawyers asked for a reduction in their detention. Thus, in July, the controlling judge ordered Vanneschi to be placed on probation by social services, thus speeding up the decision due to family problems. A few weeks ago the same was also confirmed for Albertoni. They are both placed on probation in a voluntary association and are required not to go out at night. Their sentences will end in early 2025.
