Festival of Lights in Zagreb to celebrate spring

Every year, in March, the city of Zagreb celebrate the arrival of spring with Festival of Lights: the historic center is transformed into a widespread canvas where light artists express themselves and offer extraordinary shows. Colorful and extravagant images “envelop” monuments, the walls of noble palaces, statues; they fill and enliven public parks which become open-air theaters.

Festival of Lights in Zagreb 2024: dates and appointments

The 2024 edition of Zagreb Festival of Lightsone of the most anticipated events of the summer for the capital of Croatia, will take place from March 20 to 24, 2024. A total and exciting immersion in a world of lights in the streets of a living city, rich in art and projected into the future.

Light of Zagreb

By browsing the Upper town and the Lower town, the two souls of the city, creative, imaginative and rather unusual light installations will meet, signed by national and foreign artists, from Germany, Spain and Slovakia. A spectacle that attracts tourists from all over the world, in one five days dedicated to design and architecture.

Facilities and environmental theme

During the Festival of Lights 2024, there will be more than 30 installations that follow the central theme of environmental protection. One work in particular, produced in collaboration with WWF, will focus on a message about wildlife conservation and reducing human impact on the ecosystem.

Zagreb Light Cannon Tower

The main symbol of this year's Festival will be the forest cyclamen (Cyclamen purpurascens), a spring flower threatened by climate change, which reminds us of the importance of protecting natural beauty and wildlife, to be preserved for future generations.

Itinerary among the installations: the cult places of the city

The Zagreb Light Festival represents an itinerary to discover the city, through monumental light installations, map projections, activities along the streets, parks and squares. Don't miss the spectacular Bana Jelacica Square, there main square of Zagrebwith the equestrian statue of the ban in the center Josip Jelacic, with spectacular light effects.

Facilities cartography also for Gornji Grad, the Upper Town. You get off the shortest funicular in the world (the climb takes less than a minute) and here are the lights on Cannon tower. You then walk towards St. Mark's Square, where the Croatian Parliament is located, and the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin, with its two very tall Gothic spiers.

Just outside the perimeter of the historic center, follow the monumental light artworks, towards Kralja Tomislava and Ante Starčevića squares where the Arts Pavilion is located and in Zrinjevac Park.
