Double mourning for Mariah Carey: her mother and sister who drugged and burned her die on the same day

Singer Mariah Carey lost her mother and sister on the same day last weekend. “I'm heartbroken. I lost my mother and, in a tragic turn of events, my sister also passed away on the same day,” Carey told People magazine. Carey's mother, Patricia, was 87. Sister Alison, 63. Mariah says she feels “lucky” to have been able to spend the last week of her life with Patricia. The 55-year-old singer had had difficult relationships with both in the past. With Alison, in particular, a former HIV-positive drug addict and often homeless, she had not had a relationship for the past 30 years, traumatized because her sister had “drugged her with Valium, offered her a dose of cocaine, burned her in third-degree burns and tried to sell her to a pimp” when she was just 12. Patricia Carey was an opera singer and was previously married to Alfred Roy Carey, the singer's father. Her parents divorced when Mariah was just three.
