Brazil and Gabigol suspended for two years for attempted doping fraud

The Flamengo striker, 27, was suspended for two years for attempted doping. On April 8, 2023, during checks carried out at the club's sports center, Gabigol, a former Inter player, allegedly obstructed the work of inspectors, disrespecting them and not following the instructions given to him to carry out the test, then negative result. The disqualification, however, takes effect from today and will therefore effectively expire on April 8, 2025, although Gabigol has been regularly employed since then. “I have never tried to prevent or defraud an exam and I hope that everything will be clarified by the higher court – says the Brazilian on social networks -. Throughout my career I have always followed the rules of the game and I have never used banned substances. … I have already been subjected to dozens of tests, all always negative.” Gabriel Barbosa defends himself, assures that the truth will come out and thanks those who, in these hours, show him affection and solidarity.

“I am disappointed by the outcome of the trial, but I will continue to collaborate with the sporting authorities, convinced that my innocence will be proven and that the truth will be restored. It is a difficult moment, but I thank everyone for the support that you bring to me”, added Gabigol, in Italy during the 2016-2017 season: a total of 9 appearances and one goal with the Inter jersey.
