A1, chain accidents due to fog: at least 15 injured, motorway closed between Piacenza and Parma

The provisional assessment of the accidents which paralyzed, on the morning of Monday February 19, the A1 motorway between Fiorenzuola D'Arda and Parma, towards Bologna, is at least fifteen injured, including two serious. The thick fog in the area between Piacenza and Parma, in Emilia-Romagna, caused three rear-end collisions: one at kilometer 75, one at kilometer 80 and another at kilometer 85. In total, there were at least thirty vehicles involved. , with dozens of rescuers arriving on site. Following the accidents, the section of the A1 between Piacenza and Parma was closed in both directions. The stations of Basso Lodigiano, Fiorenzuola and Fidenza also remain closed.

The injured person

In total, there were at least fifteen injured. Among them, two are in serious condition and were rushed to the Maggiore Hospital in Parma: one to the emergency room and the other to intensive care. On the highway, meanwhile, the cars lined up stretch for several kilometers. Among the motorists, there were even some who got out of the car and climbed the bodyguard just go to the toilets at the nearest gas station. Others even took a section of road in the wrong direction to take the exit and escape the traffic jams.

Alternative routes

Those traveling to Bologna are advised to exit at Piacenza Ovest, onto the A21 Turin-Brescia, take the regular road network and then return to the A1 at Parma. For those leaving Milan and heading towards Florence, we recommend instead taking the A7 towards Genoa, then the A12 towards Livorno and finally the A11 towards Florence.
