Salvini's visit to the home of Bossi, the secretary of the League: “This is not Gemonio's peace because there has never been a war between me and him”

He announced it on August 30, when the false news about the death of Umberto Bossi spread, and after a week, Matteo Salvini kept his promise. Today, September 7, the League secretary visited the party founder at his home in Gemonio. It is the confirmation of an attempt at rapprochement between the two, after months of tensions that culminated with the announcement that Bossi would vote for Forza Italia in the European elections in June. Salvini, however, did not agree with this reading of the meeting: “It is not the peace of Gemonio because there has never been a war between me and Bossi.” Leaving Bossi's house, the deputy prime minister added: “I found him in great shape. We talked about everything, autonomy, pensions to be protected, work, taxes, justice, Lombardy and the action of the government and the League. He is happy and I am happy.” After that, he went to the League party in Besozzo, a few kilometres from Gemonio. The meeting between Salvini and Bossi began around 7:30 pm, when the secretary was photographed calling on the intercom of the Senator's home, and lasted more than an hour.

The League's note

More than an hour of conversation in Gemonio – Varese – between Matteo Salvini and Umberto Bossi. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere, after the broadcast, at the end of August, of the false news of the death of the Senator. For Salvini, it was a “very positive” conversation, we were both very happy. Several topics were discussed. Not only the situation of the government and the party, but above all autonomy – “historic battle of the League that will be good for all of Italy” declared Salvini -, and then the infrastructures – with particular reference to those of Lombardy -, justice, security and immigration. All without forgetting some thoughts on the economy, war, energy policy with an eye on nuclear power. Also present with Bossi were his wife Manuela Marrone and his son Renzo. Salvini promised the founder to keep him constantly informed, perhaps with another meeting with the ministers, starting with Roberto Calderoli.
