A very large fire broke out on the fifth floor of a newly constructed 14-story building in the Campanar district of Valencia, where numerous fire crews are in action. The fire spread in a few minutes thanks to the action of the wind. So far, no casualties have been reported but a field hospital has been set up in the area. A shopping center located on the ground floor of the building was evacuated. At least two people were still trapped in the fire-affected area. The building has 138 apartments and the Valencian Community Emergency Coordination Center has requested reinforcements from the National Civil Protection Emergency Center.
At least seven people were injured in the fire – as reported by El Pais -: a firefighter treated for a fracture and two of his colleagues who inhaled smoke, as well as four civilians, including a minor, still due to smoke inhalation. Emergency services report that 22 teams attended the scene, as well as 6 Samur units and 2 basic resuscitation units. The Red Cross also intervened on site. The President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, and the Mayor of Valencia, María José Catalá, are at the scene of the fire, located at the intersection of General Avilés and Maestro Rodrigo streets.
