Ferrari has won the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans, repeating last year's triumph. The n°50 of the Italian Antonio Fuoco, the Spaniard Miguel Molina and the Dane Nicklas Nielsen preceded the Toyota n°7 and the other Ferrari, the n°51, winner last year on the legendary track of the Manceau.
Valentino Rossi, however, was forced to retire after his teammate went off the track with his BMW. Omani Ahmad Al Harthy, who was in the top five in the lower LMGT3 category, finished his race on gravel. Unable to leave, the crew of the Belgian WRT team had to throw in the towel. The retirement was a blow for Rossi, Al Harthy and the third man in the team – Belgian MaximeMartin – who were aiming for a podium at the Sarthe circuit.
The multiple MotoGP world champion, who switched to motorsport in 2023, took part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time. He got behind the wheel shortly before 8 p.m. and said after his shift that he “enjoyed it despite the pressure.” In the first Hypercars category, the #8 Toyota was in the lead after thirteen hours of racing neutralized by heavy rain in the middle of the night, ahead of the Porsche.
