Jannik Sinner also won at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in New York, winning his second Grand Slam final – of the season and of his career – with a final result of 6-3, 6-4, 7-5. The 23-year-old Italian won the 2024 US Open against American Taylor Fritz by 3 sets to 0, after a hard-fought but dominated match. In the first set, the 23-year-old immediately broke his opponent in the first game and held serve in the next, taking a 2-0 lead. The American reacted immediately and leveled the score by winning the break in the fourth game. The balance did not last long, Sinner broke the 4-3, won the next game and closed the set at the third attempt at 6-3. The second set was very balanced, with Sinner snatching the last deciding game to close at 6-4. In the third and final chapter of the match, Sinner had the chance to break at 3-2, but the 26-year-old won the match and regained confidence. Having then given up serve to his opponent, Sinner had the clarity to bring the set back to a draw at 5-5, then to close at 7-5 by winning the last game in which his opponent was serving. Immediately after the last decisive point, the Italian tennis player celebrated on the court and then reached the stands of Arthur Ashe, hugging Simone Vagnozzi and Darren Cahill of his staff and exchanging a kiss with his girlfriend, the tennis player Anna Kalinskaya. In his post-match thanks, he dedicated the victory to his aunt: “This title means a lot to me, the last period for me was really not easy, my team supported me every day, they were close to me. I love tennis, I have trained a lot for these stages, but beyond the court there is a life and I want to dedicate this title to my aunt, because she is not well and I do not know how long she will remain in my life. And it is wonderful to share this moment with her, she was an important person for me. I wish everyone good health, even if it is a wish that cannot always be fulfilled.”
