Train strike on October 12 and 13: timetables, guaranteed routes and reimbursement terms. Everything you need to know

The agitation was started by some unions to demand the renewal of the national collective agreement

The train strike on Saturday October 12 and Sunday October 13 could have “significant repercussions on the service”. This was announced in a note from Trenitalia, on the eve of the weekend during which some unions invited their members to refrain from working. The national transport strike, which concerns all staff of the Ferrovie dello Stato group, will begin on Saturday October 12 at 9 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. on Sunday October 13.

Strike time and trains guaranteed

During these 24 hours, trains could be delayed or canceled, with Trenitalia predicting the possibility of a “significant impact on rail traffic” and “total and partial cancellations of Frecce, Intercity and Trenitalia Regional trains”. But the effects of the strike, in terms of cancellations and delays, “could occur even before and last beyond the end of the union protest.” In the table below you will find a list of guaranteed routes in the event of a strike.

Where to find useful information about the strike

To stay informed in real time about the connections and services active during the train strike, simply consult the Trenitalia application, the “Infomobility” section of the website or the social networks of the Fs Italiane group. It is also possible to request information by calling the free number 800 892 021 or by going to the ticket offices and help desks at the stations.

How to request a refund

Travelers who intend to abandon their trip due to inconvenience may request a refund of their ticket under the following conditions:

  • until the departure time of the reserved train, for Intercity and Frecce trains
  • until midnight the day before the strike, for regional trains

Alternatively, says Trenitalia, “the trip can be rescheduled, under similar transport conditions, as soon as possible, also taking into account seat availability.”

Why the strike was called

The strike was called by the Cub and Sgb unions, who are demanding “a contractual renewal of safety, rights, hours, salaries and which sets the vision of work and rail service differently”. Unions are also calling for workplace safety measures to be put in place.
