Spotlight on Herman's spoon

A dark and distant page of history, but indelible for those who lived it: theItalian occupation in the Balkans during World War II. When more than a hundred thousand civilians were deported to fascist concentration camps.

Between 1942 and 1943, they died in the camp on the island of Rab (Rab). nearly one thousand five hundred Slovenes and Croats. Most of them were women, elderly people and children. Their villages had been burned and razed by the royal army to prevent the Yugoslav partisans from obtaining supplies. They were interned in a tent camp and left to die of starvation and disease.

The symbol of this story is a spoon, that of the nurse of Rab's children, Martina Košak. When he left the camp, he took it with him and, before he died, he decided to donate it to Herman Janez, who had been one of these children. To continue to remember.
