Retirements, three additional months of work from 2027: “Young people will leave at 70”

Istat estimates the increase in the retirement age. And the worst scenarios

Those born after 1960 will retire later, from 2027. And young people will leave at 70. These are the estimates developed by Istat on the increase in the retirement age, based on the update of Italian demographic forecasts. Currently, for those who contributed before 1996, the withdrawal conditions are set at age 67 and at least 20 years of contributions. People born in 1960 will be 67 years old in 2027, when the new adaptation of life expectancy requirements is expected. Which from 2019 to today, due to the pandemic, has not increased the thresholds.

January 1, 2027

From January 1, 2027, however, according to Istat, the three additional months will begin: “Compared to the current 67 years, this would increase to 67 years and three months from 2027. Then to 67 years and six months in 2029 and 67 years old. and 9 months in 2031 To reach 69 years and nine months in 2051. The Istat update takes into account the increase in life expectancy to 65 years. Therefore, the estimates are also an increase compared to those of the General State Accounting on medium and long-term trends published in June. In this report, the first adjustment was planned for 2029 and would last only one month. Instead, Istat says it will last three months and start two years earlier. In 2045, the retirement age will be 69. In 2055, it will be 69 years and ten months.

The most negative scenarios

These accounts take into consideration a scenario in which there would be a net flow of migrants equal to 230 thousand entries until 2030 then 170 thousand until 2050. But there also exist more negative scenarios, such as the one in which in 2050 the residents of Italy, they would increase from 59 to 52.7 million. In this case, the date of cessation of work would be even further away in time.
