Provincial statistics provided by Aci-Istat shows that in 2023 there was a slight drop in the number of road victims and an increase, albeit to a limited extent, in accidents and injuries.

In detail: on Italian roads, over the last year, 166,525 accidents were recorded with injuries to people (165,889 in 2022, +0.4%; 172,183 in 2019, -3.3%), which caused 3,039 deaths (3,159 in 2022, -3.8%; 3,173 in 2019, -4.2%) and 224,634 injured (223,475 in 2022, +0.5%; 241,384 in 2019, -6.9%).

On average: 456 accidents, 8.3 deaths and 615 injuries every day.

Compared to 2019, year chosen as a reference for the objective set by the European Commission and to be achieved by 2030: a 50% reduction in the number of victims and serious injuries, in In 42 out of 107 provinces, the number of road deaths increased In 56 provinces, the number of victims decreased and in 9 provinces it remained stable. Furthermore, in 8 provinces, the objective of halving the number of victims compared to 2019 has already been achieved. Finally, in Italy, in 2023, the reduction in victims compared to the reference year is still limited and is equal to 4.2%.
