England and Tuchel in talks with FA to become new national team coach

After Pep Guardiola's dreamThomas Tuchel is now in pole position to become the new manager of the English national football team. It seems that the FA (Football Federation) is discussing with the emissaries of the German coach for the new role of technical commissioner. After the departure of Southgate after the European Championship (he had been at the helm since 2016), the team was entrusted on an interim basis to Irishman Lee Carsley.

After an initial investigation for Guardiola, immediately after Southgate's resignation in July, Tuchel is in pole position and the official announcement could arrive shortly even if, they specify from England, many details of his contract still need to be agreed.

This is what the BBC reports, recalling that England has been without a coach since the resignation of Gareth Southgate after the defeat of the Three Lions in the Euro 2024 final against Spain. Lee Carsley was appointed caretaker manager “with a view to remaining in this role throughout the autumn” while the FA assessed suitable options. The BBC has received reports from two different sources that initial discussions have taken place with Tuchel.

An attempt was even made for Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola this summer. Tuchel, 51, left Bayern Munich in May with a year remaining on his contract as the German giants failed to win the Bundesliga title for the first time since 2011-12. He also coached Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and Paris St-Germain. Tuchel coached Chelsea between January 2021 and September 2022, winning the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup before being sacked. If appointed, Tuchel would become the third non-British coach of the England men's national team after Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.
