Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell attacked guitarist Dave Navarro last night, September 13, during their concert in Boston. In videos circulating online, the band's frontman is seen shoving the musician with his shoulder and verbally assaulting him before being stopped by the other musicians on stage. The fight may have been sparked by friction that erupted within the band due to Farrell's poor performance at a previous show.
The fight
As seen in the cover images, Farrell approaches Navarro in a threatening manner and gives him a shoulder or elbow, much to the astonishment of the audience and the guitarist himself. The singer then confronts him head on, but before the worst can happen, some members of the band, including bassist Eric Avery, stop him. Farrell tries to escape their grip but fails. The lights dim and the audience watches the stage in disbelief. Some members of the band will return to the stage, to the applause of the crowd, making the peace symbol and hugging each other. Jane's Addiction have more tour dates planned before their conclusion in mid-October, but it is not yet clear if they will continue with the shows.
The reasons for the gesture
It is unclear what exactly caused the attack on Perry Farrell. However, the DailyMail reports tensions between the members during the show in New York the previous week. Farrell had apologized to fans for his poor performance due to a forgettable singing performance. He said he was not in great shape. Immediately afterwards, bassist Eric Avery added on Instagram: “Looking forward to experiencing this spectacular rooftop venue again tonight. I am optimistic we will do better.” However, something went wrong, the disagreements remained and Farrell started yesterday's brawl.
