Bologna, VIP pastry chef Federico Asta dies: struck in road accident

He was 34 and also known for his charitable activities during Covid

Federico Asta, nicknamed “the VIP pastry chef”, died in a car accident. This happened yesterday evening, shortly before 10 p.m., in the suburbs of Bologna. The accident occurred between a large-displacement Yamaha scooter and an SUV, a Honda, which was turning onto the road. Asta, who was on board the motorcycle, was thrown to the ground and all rescue attempts were in vain. As for the SUV, on the other hand, the driver is unharmed.

Federico Asta was 34 years old and known as the VIP pastry chef because he prepared desserts and cakes for events, concerts and demonstrations. With his pastry shop on Via Battindarno in Bologna, Asta also became known during Covid for having set up tables outside his business with 180 packets of flour and baking powder, available to all passers-by. “'I want to offer donuts and pizzas to the volunteers who came here to Bologna, how do we do it?' It was the last time we spoke, and this morning I would have called you back to organize us”, are the last words of Asta who remembers the president of the district of Borgo Panigale-Reno, Elena Gaggioli.

“Many of us reacted with disbelief and pain to this morning's news, thinking in particular of your beautiful family at home and that of the pastry shop. Thank you for all the cakes Federico, the snacks from the Quartiere de Birra festivals in Santa Viola, the donuts at Notte Viola and for all the times you were smiling and helpful,” added Gaggioli. “The most sincere condolences to his wife , to his daughters and also to all the workers of the Federico Asta pastry shop,” he concluded.
