“You can terminate the contract without just cause”

Lassana Diarraformer French midfielder, terminated his three-year contract with Lokomotiv Moscow in 2015 after one year. For the Russian club, the player had betrayed the agreement without “just cause” and had to pay 20 million euros, but after 10 years, the Court of Justice of the European Union ruled in favor of Diarrà.

FIFA regulations in terms of the transfer market, this would be incompatible with the free movement of people within the community.

A decision which is reminiscent of the “Bosman decision” of thirty years ago. Jurisdictional provision adopted by the Court of Justice of the European Union itself in 1995 to regulate the transfer of professional footballers between football clubs belonging to federations of the European Union.
