The hunt for rescuers begins, 4 thousand vacancies. Managers: “The kids don’t care”

AAA lifeguards needed. And desperately too. The summer season has (almost) arrived, but managers of seaside establishments are unable to find professionals to ensure the safety of bathers. There are around 4,000 vacancies every year, estimates Roberto Dal Cin, president of Confapi Turismo cited by Republic. If in the past one every 600 meters was enough, today the new rules require one every 180. And the children, according to Dal Cin, no longer want to do this work. The salary is always the same: 1,400-1,500 euros per month, 8 hours per day. Except in exploitative situations, as happens very often. But what probably weighs heavily are the high costs of food and accommodation at resorts. And if once such benefits they were guaranteed by the same factory, but today this is no longer the case. “The situation is critical,” says Massimiliano Schiavon, president of Federalberghi Veneto. “Over the last 6 months, there has been a slight improvement but we are still under demand, especially in view of the next bathing season.” And to recruit new rescuers, managers are ready to do anything: from social appeals to paying – at their own expense – for authorizations to practice the profession.
